These documents will detail how to post binary files to usenet with the least amount of trouble for yourself and others.
This tutorial assumes you have some knowledge of usenet already but do not know how to post binaries.
First we need to to lay out some ground rules about usenet, following these will make your usenet experience a more pleasant one.
- Be polite
- Post in text, not html.
- Do not post the same message more than once per day.
- Remember there are more than eighty thousand newsgroups, try checking a few of them before you request something or post something.
- It takes time for some people to read their messages (called headers), you may not get a response to a request or question for hours or days.
- You don't like spam in your email, so don't spam usenet with advertising, requests or messages you have received that you think you need to share with the world.
- Watch, learn and pay attention. The best thing you can do is watch what other people do and learn from their mistakes or their praise from others.
- Read the FAQ for the newsgroup. If one is not posted every day or every few days it's ok to request that someone post it for you.
- SHARE !
That's generally it for the basic rules. There are more specific rules for some newsgroups which I suggest you read. Failure to comply with rules that are laid out for particular newsgroups can get you flamed or you could receive a warning from your news provider to play nice or you could even lose your account.
